The Youth America’s Cup will be raced in a carbon-fiber monohull that lifts out of the water on two foils, the AC9F. The AC9F is a “One Design”, which means that all boats will be identical. The AC9F is especially designed and built for the Youth America’s Cup and is comparable to her bigger sister, the America’s Cup foiling monohull.
At the Youth America’s Cup the AC9F will be sailed by a crew of 4. Two females and two males. The crew must be between 18-24 years of age with a combined weight limit of 280-311kg.

It has a dagger board and foils.

The AC9F is a nine-metre foiling monohull which has been designed by New Zealand boat building company Yachting Developments (YDL) with valuable input from the Emirates Team New Zealand design team, Southern Spars, North Sails and significant support from the wider New Zealand Marine Industry highlighting the industries commitment to innovation. The fleet of one-design boats will be built primarily at YDL in Auckland.
